ONE Kitchen Appliance You Can't Do Without

If you could only have one kitchen appliance, what would you choose?

I was telling my plant-based nutrition coach today that I purchased an electric pressure cooker and a dehydrator but haven't used either one yet. She said she doesn't even use those appliances. It got me thinking about what kitchen appliances are necessary to transition from the Standard American Diet to a whole-food, plant-based lifestyle.

My home burned down last August and I lost everything including all my kitchen appliances. Everyone kept asking me how they could help, what could they get me. It was really hard to accept help because I've always been so independent, but I knew that it would make my friends and family feel good to help, so I did ask for one thing. Can you guess what it was?

It was a Ninja blender! I know a lot of people swear by the Vitamix blender, but the Ninja blender does a fine job for me and it costs a fraction of the price of a Vitamix. The one I lost in the fire I had for four years and it still pulverized fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds with no problem. I am very grateful for my friend Shelby who got me a new blender. I use it almost every day! I love to make smoothies in it.

The other kitchen appliance I couldn't do without is my crock pot. I use it a lot too. I love to make a big pot of veggie soup in it. I also like to make 15 bean cajun soup. Just put it in before I go to work and then it's ready when I get home.

Both appliances are perfect for my busy schedule. I'm still looking forward to learning how to make some new recipes using the pressure cooker and dehydrator. I'm curious about making coconut bacon in my dehydrator. I don't really miss bacon at all, but there is a bacon festival that started in my community last year and I would love to be able to show up with a vegan alternative this year!

What kitchen appliance could you not do without?
